June 17, 2022 - Update 02

As communicated earlier this week, Maersk planners have been working closely with rail freight operators to understand the overall impact that upcoming Network Rail strike action will have on our inland operations. We are now in a position to provide an update on the situation, with rail scheduling confirmed for next week.

Although the week of strike action will pose challenges, we’re pleased to report a more positive outlook, as our rail suppliers have worked hard to protect Maersk’s contract commitments. This means we will be able to keep containers moving throughout and hope to minimise the impact on your supply chain.

Our rail network strength means we will continue to have base coverage across the UK, having agreed with our intermodal service providers to make capacity/timing changes in order to accommodate as much freight as possible.

On days where no strike action is planned (20th, 22nd, 24th June), most services will continue to operate as normal. And although there are many cancellations on strike days (21st, 23rd, 25th June), some services will still be in operation to keep cargo moving.

Maersk would like to thank customers for their collaborative support throughout this week booking as many containers inland as possible, as it’s enabled us to safeguard inbound deliveries through the week of strike action.

We will continue to focus on maintaining the flow of import and export cargo during this period and keep customer impact to a minimum. However, please be aware that the situation could change and additional disruption is possible.

As always, our teams are here to serve you. So please don’t hesitate to reach out to your local Customer Experience representative if you have any questions.

June 13, 2022 - Update 1

A.P. Moller – Maersk is aware of the RMT Union’s plan for strike action across Network Rail on Tuesday 21st June, Thursday 23rd June and Saturday 25th June, which is set to cause significant disruption across the United Kingdom.

Our planners are working closely with the rail freight operators every day to understand the overall impact this will have on inland operations, and we will be able to communicate a bigger picture in terms of service omissions and schedule amendments to you in due course.

We will work hard to mitigate the impact of strike action within the constraints of operational feasibility, should it go ahead as planned. However, in the interest of planning ahead, we would strongly recommend that customers get in touch with their Customer Experience representative to discuss options for advancing and pre-positioning cargo in order to mitigate the impact on the inbound flow of goods.

The situation is subject to change at short notice, but we will do all in our power to keep you informed and give you the necessary support to keep your supply chain moving.

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your local Maersk team.
