At Maersk, we remain committed to delivering world-class services that support and strengthen your business. In line with this commitment, we would like to provide a refresher on the Weight Discrepancy Fee (WDF) policy applicable in Indonesia.
Kindly note that the WDF is not a new charge—it has been in effect since June 2020. This fee is associated with the Verified Gross Mass (VGM) requirement, which is a mandatory condition for loading containers onto vessels. Maersk fully supports this regulation as it enhances safety across the supply chain—for your cargo, landside personnel, our employees, and our vessels.
As part of our ongoing efforts to improve operational safety and network reliability, we have made several enhancements to the WDF policy. These updates were communicated in our advisory released in September 2024, and the revised policy has been effective since 15 October 2024 with below details;

The WDF applies to each container that meets any of the following conditions:
- The difference (positive or negative) between the weight declared in the initial or amendment shipping instructions (cargo weight + tare weight) and the VGM weight (declared by shipper or the final details from terminal) is greater than 3000Kg.
- The VGM weight is greater than the maximum gross weight of the container as per CSC plate (max payload + tare weight).
- The VGM weight is lesser than tare weight of the container.
We would like to emphasize the importance of submitting accurate, consistent, and timely VGM data. Doing so ensures the safe handling of containers and helps us maintain the safety of our crew and vessels. It is the shipper’s responsibility to provide the correct VGM as part of the cargo loading process. For more information, please refer to:

If you have any objection to the charge, you may raise disputes directly via our web using this guidance . Please include the supporting evidence when raising disputes so that the review can be done thoroughly.
However, if you have concern with the weighing process or result from terminal which is used as final VGM, please reach out directly to the respective terminal using below contact details to process the disputes with terminal.
