Cargo Dues Recovery Process & Applicable Surcharges (FIO & FID) – Effective 1 April 2026

Please be advised that Maersk will be implementing a cargo dues recovery process to mitigate any charges received from the Terminal Operator (TNPA) when cargo dues are not processed for import or export containers moving through South African ports (Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, and East London). Effective Date will be 1 April 2026.

Scope of Application

For all shipments booked on a Store Door (SD) basis via any South African port to the following over border countries, i.e., Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, and Zambia, a Cargo Dues Recovery Fee will apply.

Cargo dues will be billed in accordance with the TPT Tariff, which stipulates that cargo dues are payable by the importer/exporter, who may appoint a clearing and forwarding agent to submit the transaction on their behalf.

As the carrier, when shipments are booked on an SD basis, Maersk is required to process these dues timeously and recover the associated costs from our valued customers.

If your shipment is booked Container Yard (CY) to/from any South African port, the responsibility to process cargo dues remains with the exporter/importer.
