Due to the increase in activity associated with the citrus season, storage facilities located within the Port of Algeciras are experiencing exceptionally high occupancy levels.
This situation is generating increased congestion within the port area, resulting in longer waiting times for loading and unloading operations at warehouses and impacting the efficiency of associated inland transportation services.
In order to ensure service continuity and cover the additional operational costs arising from this situation, Maersk will implement a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) applicable to import reefer container haulage movements within the Port of Algeciras.
Operational scope
The surcharge will apply to the following operations:
- Direct delivery to warehouses located within the Port of Algeciras.
- Inspection followed by delivery to warehouses located within the Port of Algeciras.
Surcharge details
- Name: Inland Peak Season Surcharge (IPI)
- Applicable exclusively to import reefer containers and not applicable to dry cargo.
- Effective Date: 19/08/2026 (Non-FMC) // 19/09/2026 (FMC)
- Surcharge Amount: EUR 65 per container
- Duration: This surcharge is expected to remain in effect until 30/09/2026 (Non-FMC) // 31/10/2026 (FMC) and will be subject to review depending on the congestion situation at the Port of Algeciras.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this period of high demand.
