How to transfer the Bill of Lading ownership to another party?
Maersk offers the Transfer Bill of Lading service for customers to transfer or change ownership of the bill online. This service is available for Original Bill of Lading (i.e. negotiable bills). This service does not apply to Waybills.
-
Is there a pre-requisite to place the request?
- Only the transport document receiver party (Bill of Lading owner) can place this request once the Original Bill of Lading document has been issued online.
-
To which parties can the BL be transferred?
- BL can be transferred to Booked by, Price owner, Shipper and Consignee.
-
What are the use cases where this service could be used?
- Shipper can use this service to transfer the BL ownership to consignee once the commercial invoice is paid. This is convenient to both parties as it avoids courier delays. For the shipper it provides control over the BL. The consignee could either collect the BL from the local country counter or print the BL online if they have a Web printing agreement with Maersk.
- Export forwarder can use this service to transfer the BL ownership to shipper once their invoice is paid.
- Mitigates challenges for the customer on short transit shipments.
-
What happens when the request is placed online?
- The BL is transferred immediately, to allow the Consignee to start the cargo release process.
- Invoicing is completed within 20 minutes of placing the order.
- The customer receives an email acknowledgement confirming the successful order processing. The order status can be viewed on Maersk.com.
- The service charge is visible on the shipment and the invoice is available online for payment.
-
Are there any countries where this service is not available?
- Service is not available in 18 final delivery countries - Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Libya, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg, Monaco, Namibia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, San Marino, Sint Maarten, Slovakia, St Kitts-Nevis, St Lucia, Syria, Tonga, Turks and Caicos, Virgin Islands.
-
