Import documentation
Consignees will receive their arrival notices and invoices by automated email 48 hours prior to the vessel's arrival ( This is not applicable for short transit vessels). Consignee’s can subscribe for ETA change notification and arrival notice on https://www.maersk.com
Maersk will be ready to release the delivery order (D/O) to consignees 24 hours prior to vessel arrival ( This is not applicable for short transit vessels)
Consignees should present the duly endorsed original bill of lading/waybill for the collection of the Delivery Order. Person approaching the import counter for D/O collection should also provide a photocopy of the National Identity Card along with the FCL guarantee letter on consignee’s letterhead.
Shippers' no objection is a mandatory requirement for the release of cargo against a First-class Bank Guarantee of 300% of the invoiced value of cargo.
CARGO MANIFEST
Every cargo reporter shall submit cargo manifest report to Sri Lanka customs electronically;
(a) not later than seventy two (72) hour period before the arrival in the first port of call in Sri Lanka ; or
(b) if the duration of the voyage to a port in Sri Lanka is less than seventy two (72) hours, on the departure from the last port outside Sri Lanka.
Above regulations made by the Sri Lankan President under Section 103 of the Customs Ordinance (Chapter 235) read with Article 44(2) of the Constitution and made effective by the Extraordinary gazette notification No. 1886/55 on 31/10/2014
Any Cargo reporter who contravenes the provisions of these regulations shall be guilty of an offence and shall on conviction after summery trial by a Magistrate be liable to a fine, not exceeding twenty-five thousand rupees or in imprisonment of either description for a term not exceeding three months or to both such fine and imprisonment.
****This regulation is applicable for local import and also transshipment cargo to be discharged in Colombo.
Manifest corrector
According to the Sri Lanka Customs Ordinance, subsequent correction to the manifest will result a penalty (penalties are not fixed amounts but totally at the discretion of customs. IE No tariff). Certain correction types are taken in to serious consideration and maximum penalty could be imposed or cargo may be seized by customs.
