Decarbonising Logistics.
Maersk ECO Delivery Ocean
Maersk ECO Delivery Ocean helps you reduce GHG emissions by supporting the use of lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions fuels* – offering reductions of up to 84% on a well-to-wake basis compared to fossil fuels.
By choosing ECO Delivery Ocean, you're benefiting from the use of these fuels in our direct network. While your container may not be transported on a vessel running on lower GHG emissions fuels, your booking enables Maersk to use these fuels across our owned and chartered fleet – leading to measurable GHG emissions reductions, which can be attributed to you with a certificate. This product reinforces our commitment to decarbonising logistics while ensuring your cargo is transported across the world's oceans.
*Reduced or lower GHG emissions fuels have at least a 65% reduction in GHG emissions on a lifecycle basis compared to a reference fossil fuel of 94 g CO2e/MJ, calculated using the REDII methodology

A beacon for companies with ambitious decarbonisation targets
In the space of just a few years, there has been a significant shift in the industry-wide commitment to reduce GHG emissions. To facilitate this, Maersk is working closely with a broad range of customers to further develop our offerings around lower GHG emissions fuels. Maersk ECO Delivery Ocean has enabled many of our customers to move a step closer to reducing GHG emissions from logistics activities. Its advantages include:
Book online on maersk.com
The most convenient way to book ECO Delivery Ocean is to add it to your existing ocean contract. Whether you are beneficial cargo owner (BCO) or Freight Forwarder (FF) you have the opportunity to book ECO Delivery Ocean instantly and digitally via Maersk Spot or Maersk Go.
Booking ECO Delivery Ocean via Maersk Spot and Maersk Go can be done anytime and from anywhere on Maersk.com and the Maersk App. Contracted customers can book their overflow conveniently online on maersk.com as well.

Reduced GHG emissions fuels – powering decarbonisation initiatives
Maersk uses fuel blends with low to very low GHG emissions* over their lifecycle as compared to fossil fuels. Different fuel blends achieve different lifecycle GHG reductions depending on their production pathway as shown below.
*Maersk defines “low GHG emissions fuels” as fuels with 65-80% lifecycle GHG reductions, and “very low GHG emissions fuels” as fuels with 80-95% lifecycle GHG reductions compared to the fossil fuel reference of 94 g CO2e/MJ, calculated using the REDII methodology
Sharing one network - how it works
Maersk transports your cargo using a combination of vessels we own, vessels we charter and operate, and third-party owned and operated vessels. Currently, lower GHG emission fuels are only used on vessels we own and charter long-term, which together handle the majority of all our ocean shipments.
While your cargo may be transported on any of these vessels, Maersk allocates the amount of lower GHG emissions fuel needed to cover the transport – used on our owned and long-term chartered fleet – to your booking. These GHG emissions reductions can be applied across all trade lanes in our network, regardless of whether your cargo is on an owned, chartered, or third-party alliance vessel.

A new era of shipping
In September 2023, Maersk was proud to set the world’s first methanol-enabled and powered container vessel on its maiden voyage. In 2024, seven new dual-fuel vessels running on methanol as well as the industry’s first retrofitted dual-fuel methanol container vessel have been added to our network.

Get a Maersk ECO Delivery Ocean CO2e savings certificate
You can highlight your decarbonisation efforts with the ECO Delivery Ocean certificate, which you can receive at the end of the year once the service is completed. This certificate details the CO2e emissions saved and attributed to your bookings, based on the amount of reduced GHG emissions fuel used to cover the transport of your containers.
