Keep your cargo journey on track with Intercontinental Rail

Transporting cargo across countries is challenging, and even more so when it involves crossing entire continents. Varying weather conditions, geopolitical instabilities and limited access to landlocked regions can all come in the way of seamless transit.

Intercontinental Rail helps your business overcome these challenges with speed, reliability and efficiency. We offer containerised transport on a robust rail network, covering multiple countries across Europe and Asia. While rail is our primary mode of transport, we seamlessly integrate barges, feeders and trucks to overcome geographical limitations, ensuring an unbroken supply chain covering the Middle Corridor.

Partner with us for seamless Asia–Europe transportation with easy access to Turkey, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Central Asia.

Services

The Intercontinental Rail Transportation service is available in two variants, according to your volume-related requirements: block train and single rail container. Read more about the variants below.

Single rail container

Under the single rail container service, you can book full container loads individually. It comes with the option of door-to-door service, which includes trucking from your factory to rail ramp and delivery from the destination rail ramp to your warehouse.

How it benefits you:

  • Multiple weekly departures
  • No minimum volume requirement

Block train

The block train product requires you to book a full train under a single booking, with a minimum of 41 containers and a maximum of 50 containers per train.

How it benefits you:

  • Allows large-volume transport at once
  • Predictable transit time
  • Utilises optimised routes

Why Maersk Intercontinental Rail Transportation?

Intercontinental Rail has a significant impact on containerised transportation, offering several advantages compared to ocean transportation:

Efficiency and speed

Rail freight solutions help you move your products faster compared to ocean shipping.

Cost effectiveness

Rail logistics is cheaper than air freight, making it a viable middle ground option to gain speed while staying below air freight costs.

Environmental benefits

Rail transport currently results in lower GHG emissions compared to road or air (GHG per tonne-km).

Reliability

Rail networks are less affected by weather conditions compared to ocean routes and therefore ensure more predictable schedules.

Intermodal integration

With integrated barge and truck solutions, Intermodal Rail increases the efficiency of the supply chain through smooth transitions and reduced handling times.

What cargo can be moved via Intercontinental Rail?

Rail transportation regulations prohibit certain types of cargo. View the commodity list to make sure your cargo is compliant.
