Current global tariffs

Effective August 7, 2025:

New duties have been established under the United States national emergency declared in Executive Order 14257 (April 2025), which addresses what the U.S. government believes to be systemic trade imbalances. This new Executive Order replaces prior rates for certain trading partners and introduces updated tariff structures by country and product.

Key updates:

• Goods from countries listed in Annex I (listed in Executive Order) will face updated ad valorem tariffs based on their current HTSUS duty rate.
• Goods from other countries not listed in Annex I will face a 10% additional duty.
• If CBP determines that goods were transshipped to evade duties, a 40% tariff will apply, along with penalties and no eligibility for mitigation.

Effective August 29, 2025:

• All imports, regardless of value or origin, will now be subject to applicable duties and tariffs.
• Shipments previously entered duty-free under Section 321 (de minimis threshold of $800) must now follow standard entry procedures.
• This includes full customs filings and compliance with all Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements.
• Postal shipments will temporarily remain exempt from formal entry, but will be subject to flat or ad valorem duties based on the country of origin.

This change will significantly impact e-commerce shipments, sample imports, and small parcel consolidations. All applicable tariffs, such as Section 301 (China), Section 232 (Steel/Aluminum), and IEEPA-based duties, will now apply to these shipments.

Effective June 4, 2025:

• On June 3, 2025, an Executive Order issued by the U.S. Administration increased tariffs on most imported steel and alumin\um articles, including derivatives, from 25% to 50%. This change took effect on June 4, 2025, at 12:01 am EDT. • What’s Changed
• Tariff Rate: Most steel and aluminium imports now face a 50% tariff, up from 25%.
• U.K. Origin Goods: Steel and aluminium goods from the United Kingdom remain at 25% due to the U.S.-U.K agreement.
• Content Reporting: You must declare the steel and aluminium content separately from the rest of the product. The non-metal portion may face additional duties under tariff rules.
• No Duty Drawback: There is no eligibility for duty refunds on affected products.
• FTZ Entries: Products admitted to a Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) on or after June 4 must be entered under privileged foreign status and will be assessed the 50% tariff when removed for U.S. consumption.

Effective August 1, 2025:

• A 50% ad valorem tariff will apply to certain semi-finished copper imports, including rods, wires, bars, sheets, tubes, connectors, and fittings classified under HTS Chapter 74.
• This applies to both wrought and unwrought copper products.
• Raw materials such as ores, concentrates, cathodes, anodes, and copper scrap are excluded.
• Beginning in 2027, 25% of domestically produced copper and high-purity copper scrap must be reserved for U.S. use.

• The U.S. and European Union (EU) have agreed to a 15% tariff across most EU-origin goods.
• Zero tariffs now apply to aircraft and components, select chemicals, semiconductor equipment, and some agricultural and raw materials.
• Steel and aluminium tariffs will be gradually reduced. A quota system is being introduced.

On May 8, 2025, the United States and the United Kingdom announced an economic agreement.

Key Highlights include:

• Tariff relief for UK steel and aluminium exports to the U.S. (reduced to 0%).
• UK automobile exports will face a 10% tariff on the first 100,000 vehicles annually; additional vehicles remain subject to the 25% rate.
• The UK will increase quotas for U.S. beef and eliminate tariffs on U.S. ethanol exports.
• The 10% tariff rate on most other UK import goods remains in place for now, with negotiations ongoing.

• The United States and Japan have finalized a trade agreement that introduces a 15% tariff on Japanese imports.
• The 15% rate also applies to automobiles and auto parts.

• U.S. exports to Indonesia will enter duty-free.
• Indonesian exports to the U.S. will be subject to a 19% tariff

• On May 12, 2025, the United States and the People’s Republic of China issued a joint statement temporarily reducing tariffs on goods from China (Hong Kong and Macau) for 90 days. Further information can be read in the White House Executive Order.
• Effective May 14, 2025, the following tariffs will apply (as relevant to customer goods):
• Section 301 Tariffs – Still in effect (7.5% or 25%, depending on classification)
• Section 232 Tariffs – As of 4 June 2025 tariffs on Steel, Aluminium, their derivatives, and Automobiles, if applicable, were raised from 25% to 50%. This is due to the Executive Order (link to: Adjusting Imports of Aluminum and Steel into the United States – The White House).
• IEEPA Fentanyl National Emergency Tariff – 20%
• IEEPA Reciprocal Tariff – 10%

• Additional note on Low-Value Shipments: The duty on low-value imports from China (including Hong Kong and Macau) has been reduced from 120% to 54%. The $100 duty per postal item remains in effect.

The United States has currently imposed the following:

• Increased tariffs on Canadian goods from 25% to 35% effective August 1, 2025.
• Goods that qualify for USMCA trade benefits are not affected by this new 35% tariff.

Canada has currently imposed the following:

• Effective April 9, 2025, Canada imposed 25 per cent tariffs on non-CUSMA compliant vehicles imported into Canada from the United States, and 25 per cent tariffs on non-Canadian and non-Mexican content of CUSMA compliant vehicles imported into Canada from the United States.
• In addition, a remission framework for auto producers that reflects and incentivizes production and investment in Canada will be developed, and details will be announced shortly.

The United States has currently imposed the following:

• A lower 10% tariff on any potash imported from Mexico that falls outside the USMCA preference.
• No tariffs on those goods from Mexico that claim and qualify for USMCA preference.

The United States has currently imposed the following:

• The U.S. government has declared a national emergency under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA)
• A 50% tariff will be imposed on select Brazilian-origin products starting August 1, 2025.
